Over 15 percent of children are overweight, an increase of 9 percent since the 1960&#8242;s. But what are the costs of this national problem? How will it affect the next generation, and how can we stop it?</p>
<p> Impaired Learning and Cognitive Development</p>
<p> Numerous studies by the International Institute of Health, Harvard Medical School and many others have proven that a poor diet and lack of exercise not only lead to childhood obesity, but also severely impair a childs cognitive learning skills and development.</p>
<p> According to a May 2008 study by the Mayo Clinic, the reason your child may not be doing as well in school could be caused by a poor diet rather than lack of school effort.</p>
<p> Children who eat a diet consisting of predominantly fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbs scored much higher in intelligence and cognitive skills tests than their peers who had a bad diet steeped in refined sugars and saturated fats.</p>
<p> Children&#8217;s brains are still developing unlike adults. Therfore it is critical that they get the healthy diet they need now, before it&#8217;s too late. Probably the longest-lasting and hardest-to-repair consequence of childhood obesity in America will be the subsequent learning impairments rooted in this national malaise.</p>
<p> Major Physical Health Problems</p>
<p> Barring any serious heart of lung problems, any 10-year-old child should be able to run the length of a soccer field without running out of breath or experiencing chest pains. The obesity endemic in children is leading to a generation with a number of serious physical impairments ranging from knee and joint problems to diabetes to heart and lung problems.</p>
<p> According to the Surgeon General, over 300,000 Americas will die from obesity-related illnesses and health problems. If childhood obesity isn&#8217;t slowed down by intentional lifestyle changes, that number will only increase.</p>
<p> Financial Implications</p>
<p> In 2000, the annual cost of excess weight to the U.S. was just under $117 billion in health care costs and lost productivity. So, not only are the <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://thehealthcareblogs.com/goto/health_consequences_of_childhood_obesity/181/2" title="link title">health consequences of childhood obesity</a> dire for the individual, they could be potentially financially crippling for the country.</p>
<p> The Solution</p>
<p> The fundamental reason behind the critical level of childhood obesity in Americas is simple &#8211; children are just eating too much non-nutritious &#8220;food&#8221; and not making the time for sufficient exercise to burn off excess calories. Over the decades, the fundamental needs of people have not really changed, but our habits have.</p>
<p> As a country, we need to begin teaching our children about healthy eating patterns, bringing regular exercise back into the school curriculum, encouraging parents to turn off the television and putting the cover back on the cookie jar.</p>

<p>Each day our lives get busier. We are always going from one place to the next for work or with our children. We have the temptation to stop at the closest fast food place rather than waiting to get home and make dinner. It is usually fast, cheap, there are many options to choose, and there can be found on virtually every street corner. Nevertheless, the next time you’re deciding on whether you should pick up something fast, think about how a home-cooked meal would be a better option for your family.</p>

<p>Fast food chains, in addition to other restaurant chains, become popular by offering the same or similar dishes at all their restaurants. That way no matter where you are or what location you go to eat, they will have your favorite dish. By doing this, they can keep customers coming back and you get what you want to eat. </p>
</p>
<p>A very big issue with these chains is the process they take to offer the same product at every restaurant. They accomplish this by mass producing food in. To help keep the food fresh and to make all of the food look and taste the same, the food is filled it with preservatives, coloring, and flavoring. The food is then frozen, sometimes for long periods of time.</p>
</p>
<p>The companies that produce fast food have intended it to be just that &#8211; fast. It’s also made to taste decent enough to get the person eating hooked and keep them coming back. Unsurprisingly, when the focus of the fast food chains are on speed and taste, the customer’s health is a low priority. Many fast food options are low in fiber and high in fat, calories, sugar, and salt. </p>
</p>
<p>In recent years lawsuits have caused fast food chains to offer more nourishing options, they are in general more costly and in spite of everything not incredibly healthy. For instance, while a salad may appear like an excellent choice, various salads at chain restaurants use cheese, bacon, high-fat dressing, croutons, and other unhealthy ingredients.</p>
</p>
<p>Bear in mind that just because you prepare a meal at home does not mean it’s not “fast food”. While prepared boxed or bagged meals are appealing because they are easy, several of them have identical problems as fast food restaurants. These types of foods have just as many preservatives, and can have the same amount of fat and calories, and just as low in nutrition.</p>
</p>
<p>If you’re looking for alternatives that you can quickly pull out of the freezer and warm up, why not prepare meals with the kids on the weekend and freeze your pre-cooked meals for later in the week? Additionally you can prepare pre-made lunches and snacks. If are going to use pre-packed food, attempt to use it in moderation and remember to read labels (ingredients lists too, not just fat and calories) to ensure you’re making the healthiest choice. While faster food may be convenient, taking time to make healthy home-made meals is well worth the effort.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When it comes to <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://thehealthcareblogs.com/goto/body_building/79/1">body building</a>, many people erroneously assume that all one needs to do is haphazardly do any type of exercises without any rhyme, reason or logic. This is not a wise move because there are very specific purposes for body building exercises designed to provide two goals of either increased mass or increased definition. By understanding that there are differences between mass building exercises and those exercises that are designed for more definition the ability to arrive at one’s goals will be greater facilitated. After all, if you are exercising then you have a certain set of goals in mind and you will want the proper exercises that will be required to reach those goals.</p>
<p>Building Mass</p>
<p>The most common body building exercises people perform are compound exercises. When you are performing compound body building exercises you are primarily working on mass. That is, compound exercises mean that more than one body part is used to lift the weight. Bench presses, while generally considered chest exercises, also provide secondary stress to the biceps, triceps and shoulders. So, these other muscles grow as well as the chest although not to the same degree. Other common body building exercises that perform compound exercises include squats and military presses. Now, these exercises are not necessarily designed to make the person’s muscle mass huge (although they certainly can be used for this purpose) these exercises can be used in a lesser capacity so as not to massively pack on muscle.</p>
<p>Sculpting Definition</p>
<p>The second type of body building exercises that are employed are those exercises that are isolation exercises. These exercises do not involve more than one muscle group and are designed to specially develop the muscles of a particular area. These exercises can be employed with high repetitions to burn fat and usually follow a cycle of mass building so as to create the definition that mass requires for aesthetic looks. Please note, contrary to popular belief these exercises cannot spot reduce fat in a particular area. Yes, fat will be burned, but it will be burned evenly throughout the body as opposed to any specific or particular area.</p>
